The celebrations surrounding the ushering in of Year 2025 was dampened as back to back fire incidents occurred in Dimapur.
After the New Year’s day fire at K Kire colony, Kuda village, another at Naharbari blazed through a block of bamboo houses on January 2. An estimated 150 families were left without a roof by the fire that required the requisitioning of fire fighters from three fire stations, and personnel from the State Disaster Response Force and Assam Rifles.
The flames spread rapidly in a neighborhood marked by closely located bamboo houses with tin roof built on rented land.
The Fire and Emergency Services described it as a major fire that was brought under control and prevented from spreading to the surrounding houses. As many as 30–40 fire fighters from Dimapur’s Central, West, and Chümoukedima fire stations responded to the scene. According to one firefighter, four fire trucks from Fire Station (Central), and two each from Fire Station (West) and Chümoukedima Fire Station were deployed.
It took nearly two hours to bring the flames under control.
There was officially no report of any human casualty.
On the New Year’s Day fire, January 1, in K Kire colony, Kuda village, four houses and a shop were completely gutted. They included an Assam-type house and three tin roof bamboo houses.
As per the colony residents, the fire was reported around 10-10:30 am when the home-owners were attending the Sunday church service.
Four fire trucks responded to the situation, and the fire was brought under control by around noon. There was no report of any casualty.
