A major fire broke out at a stone crushing unit located at by-pass Jotsoma on the evening of April 8. The fire reportedly began around 5:00 pm, caused by overheating of machinery and an oil spill that triggered combustion.
Fire officials from the Kohima Fire Station confirmed the incident, noting that the fire rapidly spread to surrounding areas, including combustible materials such as bitumen, diesel barrels, and machinery. The blaze caused significant damage, with property losses estimated at Rs 10.5 lakhs.
The fire station received the emergency call at 5:11 pm, just minutes after the incident was reported. Firefighting teams from the Kohima Fire Station arrived at the scene at 5:30 pm. A total of 20 fire personnel, assisted by three fire tenders, worked tirelessly for approximately an hour to bring the fire under control.
