DIMAPUR, AUGUST 6 (MExN): The Federal Government of Nagaland has released an updated list of Naga Political Groups, aiming to clarify the current landscape of political entities within the state. The announcement comes amid what the FGN termed as widespread confusion and lack of information among the public about the true positions and affiliations of these groups.
A press release from the MIP of the FGN said that there are currently 26 recognized political groups in Nagaland. It added that “many people incorrectly consider the Naga National Council (NNC) and the Federal Government of Nagaland (FGN) as part of this list.” It said that the NNC is “a mandated Naga Political Institution and that the FGN represents its legal Naga National Government.”
“The credibility of an identity needs to be established by proving the mandate of our people,” the FGN stated and cautioned against the practice of “blindly paying taxes or extortion demands,” arguing that such actions do not benefit the Naga Nation or address the issues facing Naga society.
“Now that you have the opportunity to study the furnished list of Naga Political Groups, try to form your own opinions and decide whether to remain a silent spectator or stand up to voice and defend your rights in unison,” it added.
