Faculty development and admin training held at Baptist College

Kohima, sept 2 (MExN):  The Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) of Baptist College, Kohima, in collaboration with the Administrative Training Institute (ATI) of the Government of Nagaland, organized a One-Day Faculty Development and Administrative Training Program for teaching and non-teaching staff. 

The event took place on August 31 at 10:00 AM in the IQAC Room and Room No. 12 of the college.

The program featured two prominent resource persons: Dr. Hovithal Sothu, Project Director of TaFMA, and Andreas Lotha, Under Secretary in the Department of Economics and Statistics.

The inaugural session was chaired by L. Thsidelong Rudy, Head of the Department of Political Science at Baptist College. The event began with a prayer led by Tamreimung Chüsi. Dr. Kewepfuzu Lohe, in his welcome address, emphasized the power of knowledge and its influence over the human mind and economy. He stressed the importance of moral discernment and workplace ethics for educators. Dr. Sentinaro, IQAC Coordinator, expressed her gratitude to the resource persons and highlighted the critical role of work ethics in fostering a positive work culture within the academic community.

The first session, titled “Work Ethics I,” was led by Dr. Hovithal Sothu, who outlined the fundamentals of work ethics for teachers. He identified three key components: maintaining integrity, devotion to duty, and avoiding unbecoming behavior. Dr. Sothu elaborated on the concept of integrity, emphasizing the importance of “doing the right thing even when no one is watching.”

In the second session, “Work Ethics II,” Dr. Sothu discussed the practical aspects of work ethics, with a particular focus on attendance and punctuality. He underscored the importance of personal traits such as honesty and loyalty in the teaching profession. Dr. Sothu also addressed other essential traits, including reliability, trustworthiness, teamwork, appearance, attitude, productivity, organizational skills, ego management, communication, cooperation, and respect. He concluded the session by encouraging participants to cultivate a positive attitude and avoid unbecoming actions.

For the non-teaching staff, Andreas Lotha conducted a session on “Basic Office Procedures: Filing System, Noting, and Drafting.” He provided training on filing official documents, maintaining index registers, and drafting various official communications, including letters, office memorandums, corrigenda, and addenda. The session concluded with practical training on assigning file numbers and writing file notes.

Both sessions included interactive Q&A segments and participant feedback. The day-long program concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Narola Chuba, Vice-Principal of Baptist College.
