ESSU questions govt on shortage of teachers

DIMAPUR, MAY 10 (MExN): The Eastern Sumi Students’ Union (ESSU) has questioned the Nagaland State Government on the shortage of teachers in the State when according to the government report there is excess of teachers.

This comes after the ESSU conducted the first phase of its education tour under Aghunato administration. A press release from the union informed that some government schools are facing acute shortage of teachers and expressed dismay at the School Education Department and the State Government for “poor management system.”

The union meanwhile blamed the department and the State Government for transferring teachers without prior notice and clearance from the VEC/ SMC.

During the year 2019-2022, all together 22 teachers have been transferred with post under Aghunato administration without any proper formalities, the union informed, while blaming the department and government for its failure to manage the education system policy “which results in persecuting the career of the student community.”

The ESSU said that the GHSS Aghunato town is facing acute shortage of teachers due to retirement, while another two teachers were transferred with post recently without any notice and till date no replacement has been appointed. It urged the department to look into the matter and revoke the transfer of teachers immediately for smooth functioning of the school.

It meanwhile cautioned those erring teachers to immediately report to their place of posting without delay as per government order. It also asked the VEC/SMC to strictly adhere to their duties and functions in managing the schools and education system in Aghunato administration.

The ESSU stated that it would be left with no option but to resort to democratic forms of agitation till their demands are fulfilled. It added that the State Government and the concerned department will be held solely responsible in the event of any untoward situation arising out of the failure to meet its demands.
