The Chizami Students’ Union (CSU) conducted its 76th general session under the theme ‘Transforming Education: Values, Skills, Sustainability’ at Chizami village under Phek district on Dec19.
‘Education must prepare us to become a better human being and to be resilient, productive member of the society rather than merely giving us a certificate’ said the session speaker Ar Richard Belho, Founder and Chairman of Zynorique Initiatives Society.
Stating that no one is born with value, he said, “Value is what you add to your life so you can be useful to society or people around you. What make our community rich are our heritage, identity and timeless wisdom and values of our forefathers and not money or wealth.”
Stating that the world has moved beyond formal education, he encouraged the students to get the right knowledge to change the future of the community and to become the key stakeholders in Nagaland.
Sadly, we have become a consumer society and not a production society, he said, adding “There is a strong need to move beyond white collar jobs because we have lost the ability to control our economy.”
In the world of skilling and employability, the parameters are – ability to listen and follow instructions, ability to process instructions and execute, taking responsibility, volunteerism and leadership, sincerity and honesty, discipline and hard work, he said.
“We Nagas must think as one and work together to create a brighter future for the younger generation,” he said and encouraged the younger generation to be equipped with good values, multiple skills and adapt to the changing times.
‘We must make informed decisions’
Khrolhiweu Tsühah, the first woman president of CSU in her presidential address shared that “we are living in extraordinary times. Our community is rapidly changing in this digital age.”
While we become global citizens and it is important for us to stay relevant and contextual, we must remind ourselves and stay rooted to our indigenous values, she said.
We must make informed decisions and participate in actualizing our local and global vision, Tsühah said adding “Let us be the leaders and builders who are inspired and inspire others through our actions by transforming self to transforming communities.”
Chakhesang Students’ Union president Avezo Kevin Kapu, Dr Khrotsolo-u Teno (Advisory Board, CSU) and Dr. Kolhite Rhakho, Commandant (Vet), BSF Punjab also shared greetings.
Khrowelo Thopi, chairman, SMC also exhorted the gathering.
Tekhewu-u T Mero was awarded ‘Student of the Year 2022’ and Wulo Akami as ‘Entrepreneur of the Year 2022’ under ‘Mehüchüvü Mero Excellence Award’ which was instituted in 2018 to inspire and encourage the students to excel in academics, entrepreneurship and thrive in life.
Pfütshe Khel emerged as the winner of Clean Chizami Competition while Mechütheza Khel stood second position.
