Dzüdza landslide: Kohima DC issues evacuation order for residents

Kohima Deputy Commissioner Kumar Ramnikant along with NHIDCL, Kohima Police, District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) and M/S Brand Eagles team today inspected the landslide area near Dzüdza Bridge on National Highway- 29 between Kohima- Dimapur. 

Following the inspection, the DC Kohima issued an order terming the situation as of “utmost urgency to mitigate the risk of landslide on the affected community and prevent any loss of life or suffering.” 

In the order, the DC directed the occupants/residents of the houses/shops located along the NH-29 landslide-affected area to vacate their houses/shops without further delay and to re-locate to a safer zone. 

“Upon the physical assessment of the landslide affected area near Dzüdza bridge along NH-29 (KM 163+980 to KM 164+030) undertaken by the district administration, police, DDMA and NHIDCL on August 17 it is reported that there is occurrence of high magnitude landslide which may further worsen with heavy rainfall,” the order read. 

It stated that the continuing downhill movement of debris/slurry is likely to result in damage or destruction of houses/shops along the affected area. A concerted action plan is being implemented to manage and mitigate the severity of the landslide, the order further stated.

During the inspection, the DC informed that there is no shortage of essential commodities in Kohima due to road blockage.

Travel Advisory 
Meanwhile, the Kohima DC has issued a travel advisory following the major landslide near Dzüdza bridge under Sechü Zubza, which has fully blocked NH-29 from chainage KM 163+980 to KM 164+030 (RHS). The road is expected to remain closed for several days or even weeks for repairs.

For travel from Kohima to Dimapur, commuters have been advised to take either the Jotsoma-Khonoma-Mezoma-Sechüma-Sechü Zubza route or the Dzüdza Bridge-Mezo Basa-Sechüma-Sechü Zubza route.  For travel from Dimapur to Kohima, commuters are advised to take the Peducha Bridge-Tsiesema (10 Mile Road). Commuters are advised to plan their journeys accordingly and cooperate fully with the traffic management efforts, the travel advisory stated.
