DYRS organises youth adventure, rural sports event

Kohima, November 20 (MExN): The Department of Youth Resources & Sports, Nagaland organized 2nd phase of Rural Sports in Basketball Tournament & Youth Adventure Programme at GHS, Mangmetong and Doyang Hydro Electric Project respectively from November 13 to 16 last.

In the Rural Sports, the inaugural programme was graced by Anguvito Sema, District Sports Officer, Mokokchung and the closing programme along with prize distribution was graced by Kethosituo Sekhose, Director, Youth Resources & Sports, Nagaland.

Rural Sports are being organized by the Government under its innovative programmes to encourage young children and youths to take up sports not only as a hobby but also as a profession and these programmes are also allowing the departmental coaches to carry out talent hunts for the state sports academies.

In the Closing function, prizes were given to the winners by Kethosituo Sekhose.

He exhorted the participants to make the best use of the facilities being provided by the department and encouraged the students to keep themselves physically and mentally fit through sporting activities as sound mind goes along with sound body.

Mangmetong Village council chairman expressed his gratitude to the Government for hosting the rural sports at their village.
In final match, GHS Longkhum defeated 2nd NAP Higher Secondary School, Alichen.

An exhibition match for girls was also played between GHS Longkhum and GHS Mangmetong.

Youth adventure programme

The youth adventure programme was marked by Ziplinning, river crossing, rappling, eco-tourism, tent-pitching, survival & rescue operation workshop, cultural programme and hiking.

The adventure camp trainees were introduced to mountaineering and adventure equipment.

Students from 7 districts part took in the adventure Programme.

NAAME team was led by Ketou Kintso, chief instructor NAAME and Vilhoubeinuo Sorunuo, lady instructor NAAME along with eight other instructor.

Speaking as special guest, Anthony Ngullie, Secretary, Youth Resources & Sports, Nagaland, expressed appreciation to the directorate officials of youth resources & sports for organizing such event in a befitting manner.

He stated that the purpose of organizing such programmes was to let the youths of the state learn one another, make friends, and at the same time appreciate the naturally gifted resources and scenic beauties of the state.

He expressed gratitude to NAAME team for assisting the adventure activities and workshops on eco-tourism and ensuring that the participants learn new things.

Jakedovo Chase, Deputy Director, youth resources and sports appreciated the president of Land Owners Union of DHEP and NEEPCO Limited for allowing the department to use their facilities for the event.
