Dimapur, October 23 (MExN): The technical works of the construction of Doyang Bridge at Governor’s Camp, Liphanyan under Wokha district are ‘almost completed’ and it is expected to recommended for inauguration at the earliest.
The observation was made during a simultaneous joint inspection tour to the ongoing motor-able foothills road construction in Dimapur, Longleng, Tuli, Mangkolemba and Naganimora on October 20. When completed, the 3rd bridge over the Doyang River would be longest Bridge in Nagaland State.
According to a press release from the Nagaland Foothill Road Co-ordination Committee (NFHRCC), a team comprising of the NFHRCC, Public Works Department (R&B), Additional Chief Engineer (R&B), Superintendent Engineers, Divisional Executive Engineers and the Foothill Road Contractors undertook the joint inspection.
While visiting the Doyang Bridge, the team led by Additional CE (R&B) Er Hozeto Sumi along with its technical colleagues expressed immense satisfaction on the progress of the construction despite string of various challenges over the years, the release said. As the technical works are almost completed, the Bridge is expected to recommend inauguration for public use at the earliest, its said.
The Committee further informed that construction works for the bridge started in 2014 as part of the foothills road initiatives spearheaded by the Civil Society Organisations in 2013.
Further, under the Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio and Deputy CM, Y Patton, an additional funding to make the foothills road motor-able including the Doyang Bridge completion was initiaited in 2021, it said.
The Committee further expressed its view that the department concerned must reiterate its earlier notification in preserving the stone gravels atleast 1 kms on both up and downstreams of the Doyang River to safeguard the bridge from erosion.
It further impressed upon the District administration to ensure its implementation seriously.
The NFHRCC further informed that it will submit its observation of the inspection visit to the Department at the earliest and also urged upon the contractors of Tizit and Mangkolemba Division to start the work as soon as possible.
The Chief Engineer PWD (R&B) will personally visit the Baghty Division in Wokha District soon along with the NFHRCC, it added.
