DIMAPUR, NOV 16 (NPN) : Department of Post (DoP) and the state election department Monday signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for delivery of elector photo identity cards (EPICs) and various notices through speed post services of Department of Post on mutually agreed upon terms as per the directive of the Election Commission of India (ECI).
The MoU, signed in the office chamber of the chief electoral officer (CEO) Nagaland– between postmaster general (PMG), NE-II region, Dimapur, Som Kamei and CEO Nagaland, V Shashank Shekhar, would be valid for five years with effect from the date of signing and would be extendable subject to the terms and conditions to be mutually agreed upon by both the parties at the time of each extension.
The postmaster general would provide facilities available under the Speed Post service including booking, transmission and door delivery of all Speed Post articles containing EPICs and Notices to the concerned voter.
By using Speed Post services, the EPICs and important notices would reach the voter in a safe, time-bound and efficient manner. The MoU has been operationalised with immediate effect.
On the occasion, the superintendent of post, Razouzakie Phinuo and his team of officers, assured that DoP would ensure delivery of EPICs to the right person on time. He expressed gratitude to ECI and DoP for this opportunity to serve the society.
The CEO, Nagaland and his team of officers expressed happiness at this special initiative of ECI and DoP, which would especially benefit the common people in the State.
