Dimapur, October 27 (MExN): The employees of the Dimapur Municipal Council (DMC) have temporarily suspended the ongoing “No Pay No Work” agitation started on October 25.

The DMC Employees Welfare Union (DMCEWU) President, T Revo Anar and General Secretary, Agan Rima in a press release stated that on receiving a letter from the Municipal Affairs Department, Government of Nagaland in connection with the ongoing agitation, the Executive Body had an emergency meeting in DMC office premises at 4 pm on October 26 and suspended the same.

“After heated deliberation,” the house resolved to temporarily suspend the ongoing agitation of ‘No Pay No Work’ till November 8, it said.

‘The house also resolved that if the government fails to fulfil their demand within the stipulated period,’ the union will go for an “indefinite agitation and “no appeal/request” would be entertained further, thereafter.

It may be mentioned that the DMC employees briefly went into agitation mode, on September 12, over withheld salary for the months of July and August. The union also submitted a ‘memorandum’ to the State government warning of ceasing work if the salaries are not released within 10 days, beginning September 12. It was later extended to October 10. The proposed agitation was put on hold earlier due to several requests from civil societies and the DMC Administrator, on behalf of Government.

With the latter failing to fulfil the union’s demand, however, the union decided to go ahead with the proposed “No Pay No Work” agitation from October 25.
