‘PROXY TEACHERS ONE OF THE MAJOR ISSUES IN THE EDUCATION DEPARTMENT’

DIMAPUR , Nov 11: District level community awareness and sensitization programme on Nagaland Education Project (NEP)-the lighthouse (NECTAR) was held in the conference hall of the deputy commissioner (DC), Dimapur on November 9.

In a press release, deputy project director, Nagaland education project-the lighthouse (NECTAR), Avelu Ruho informed that during the meeting, DC Dimapur Rajesh Soundararajan expressed happiness to be associated with the project under the education department.

He encouraged all the departments to make the best of the project to enable Nagaland to become a “performer” in the North East region.

Speaking at the meeting, principal director DoSE and project director, NEP-the lighthouse (NECTAR) Shanavas C highlighted on how the project was aimed at channelising the system of education in Nagaland.

He stressed on the criticality of right information for the successful implementation of the project and said that the project would enhance the governance of schools across state and improve the teaching practices and learning environments.

He underlined the challenges that were being faced by the education system in Nagaland and with the cooperation and participation of all stakeholders, the project aims to address the prevailing issues.

Meanwhile, project coordinator, NEP-Lighthouse (NECTAR), Visato Koso spoke on community ownership and potential roles, interest and influence of key stakeholders.

He said that one of the major issues faced in the education department in Nagaland were proxy teachers and urged not to encourage it.

In the concluding remarks, senior SDEO Dimapur, Kisheli Shikhu pointed out the importance of the role of teachers in educating a child and that honesty and transparency would pave the way for a better education system in Nagaland.
