Dimapur | November 15
The recent reshuffling of officers in the state bureaucracy, including IPS and NPS officers, owing to the upcoming Assembly elections has had the Dimapur Police Commissionerate bidding adieu to 5 senior officers.
The officers, led by the Commissioner of Police, Rothihu Tetseo; DCP (Traffic), Jatila Jamir; DCP (Dimapur), Naieem Mustafa; DCP (Crime), Bharat Laxman Mankad and; ADCP Chümoukedima, T Yanrenthung Ngullie (NPS) were accorded a ceremonial send-off on November 14 by the Commissionerate, which also oversees the two new districts of Chümoukedima and Niuland.
The Deputy Commissioner, Dimapur, Sachin Jaiswal and members of the civil society organisations were also in attendance.
The outgoing CP emphasised the responsibility entrusted by the government to the Commissionerate and the police in general. He reminded that the Commissionerate has the distinction of 40 “gazetted” officers within its ranks and is akin to a police headquarters, albeit, in a smaller scale. “It is like a mini PHQ. When the government has put in this many officers, we cannot afford to be casual. As the government has put the trust in us, we have to prove our merit,” he said.
He said that the police with all the authority vested in it cannot function in isolation. It requires close coordination with the civil administration and the public, he said. While describing the police and civil administration as one team, he said that the two entities have to support and trust one another.
While stating that elections are impending, he said that the target should be to ensure that there are no re-poll in the districts under the Commissionerate. He further appealed the civil society to continue providing the same level of cooperation to the government administration.
Deputy Commissioner, Sachin Jaiswal, while terming transfers as part and parcel of government service, lauded the professionalism displayed by the outgoing officers while discharging their duties. “Dimapur is a challenging place especially for the administration. Their work has left a lasting impression in the minds of the people,” he said.
President of the Naga Council, Dimapur, Etsungmomo Kikon and Working President of the Muslim Council, Dimapur also spoke.
As per the transfer order, issued by the state government, Tetseo will take charge as DIG (Range), Kohima; Jamir posted as DIG (Planning/Development); Mustafa as SP, Peren; Mankad as SP, Phek and; Ngullie on promotion as Commandant, 5th NAP. IPS officer Kevithuto Sophie, who previously held charge as SP, Kohima, will replace Tetseo as CP.
