Team Dimapur works to create more COVID beds
DIMAPUR, MAY 17 (MExN): Revealing that DImapur district alone accounts for 61% of COVID-19 positive cases in Nagaland, Nodal Officer, Dimapur for COVID related activities Y Kikheto Sema, IAS, noted that that the district needs to prepare for the worst.
Speaking to DIPR, Sema expressed the urgent need for beds and oxygen, as all the available facilities in both government and private hospitals have run out.
On May 16, Team Dimapur visited Olive Hospital, met the Director, Ikheto Sema and lauded the hospital management for hosting all non COVID-19 patients, with all the 70 beds reported to be full. However, due to the urgent need of beds for COCID patients, Sema requested the Director to establish a make shift camp at the backyard of the hospital with at least 30 beds to be activated by next week. For this, he directed the district administration to request the Indian Army for setting up the make shift camp at Olive Hospital similar to that at Eden Hospital.
The team also visited Nikos Hospital and during an interaction with Dr Vickto Wotsa, President of Private Doctors Association DImapur, Sema appreciated the contributions rendered by the private doctors even during the 1st wave of the pandemic. Sema informed that Dr Vickto was also getting ready to provide COVID beds despite space constraints and that 15 such beds would be activated by Monday.
Since May 13, Team Dimapur, with the cooperation of hospitals, has created about 58 COVID beds. These include 28 at Referral Hospital, in addition to the earlier 76 beds, 10 beds activated at Zion hospital, 10 beds at Faith Hospital in addition to the earlier 41 beds, and 10 at Eden Hospital. 45 more beds are set to be activated by May 17 (30 at a make shift tent at Eden Hospital and 15 at Nikos Hospital).
Sema also asked the Police to make 30 COVID beds ready at the Police Referral Hospital, Chümoukedima by next week.
He meanwhile conceded that it has been a difficult task to the meet the demand for beds and oxygen, despite cooperation from all the hospitals at Dimapur. He urged people who are keeping oxygen in their houses for emergency to give them out on loan and to save lives.
