Nagaland Education Mission Society (NEMS) under the aegis of Samagra Shiksha Nagaland today launched ‘Tablets for Class 8-12 students studying in Government schools in Aspirational District Kiphire.’
It was launched virtually by KT Sukhalu, Adviser School Education Nagaland. Sukhalu was appreciative of Samagra Shiksha Nagaland for initiating such facility for students during this COVID-19 pandemic. He also sought support and cooperation of the teachers and parents for the success of the project.
Further, Sukhalu stressed on the need to reach out such facility to Noklak district as well on the ground of poor internet connectivity. He said the state government will also pursue with Government of India for extending such facility to the remaining district in phase wise manner.
With this launch, Nagaland Government will distribute free tablets to students of Class 8 to 12 who are currently pursuing their studies in government schools in Kiphire district. This will facilitate digital education during COVID-19 pandemic. The digital books and other information can be accessed at home without internet connection. The tablets that will be distributed have digital books as pre-loaded content, as well as various tests, videos and other materials, which will be as per the courses of the government schools.
Temsunaro Aier, State Mission Director Samagra Shiksha Nagaland said that the tablets will be provided to all the Class 8-12 students enrolled in government schools during 2021-22 in Kiphire Aspirational District.
The tablets are loaded with video lessons as per NBSE text books of five (5) core subjects for every class such as Math, Science, Social Science, English and Alternative English for class 8-10 and History, Political Science, English, Education and Sociology for class 11 & 12 which students can easily access without SIM card or internet.
The preloaded learning contents in the tablets have been examined and approved by the subject experts of Nagaland Board of School Education (NBSE).
“Tablet is easy to operate. It will enable the students to view high quality lessons anytime they want till they understand the lesson,” she said adding that the tablets will be distributed in two phases.
In the first phase, Tablets for Class 8-10 numbering 1097 will be distributed to students immediately.
Class 11 & 12 students will be provided in a few weeks’ time as per the enrollment of 2021-22.
Prior to distribution of tablets to students, subject teachers will be oriented through virtual mode with the support of Bright TUTEE officials, New Delhi on features of tablets and detailed preloaded learning contents in the tablets who will guide the students on use of tablets.
She said that tablets in Kiphire Aspirational District have been introduced to improve better learning outcome of students, retention rate and enrollments of students in government schools and reduce dropout rates.
Later, PP Gupta, Director, Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India said due to pandemic the students could not access education directly from teachers, however he was optimistic that the tablets which have come with pre-loaded contents could help the student of Nagaland immensely.
