The Central Department of Posts recently introduced a new facility called “Dak Ghar Niryat Kendra (DNK)” which means ‘export facilitation centre.’ The service aims to facilitate the small and medium business exporters, whereby with the help of the DNK software, its customers can file postal bill of exports online through the web link created for this purpose.

Consequently, the customers will get the export shipments booked at designated DNKs/Post Offices, the facility which has also reached Nagaland in five designated DNK centres.

This was informed by the Postmaster General of NE-II Region, Som Kamei (IPoS) while addressing a press conference at its office in Dimapur. As a pre-requisite, a person who wishes to export products abroad must have a valid GSTIN and Import-Export Code (IEC) which can be applied from the website of the Director General of Foreign Trade, for a fee of Rs 500.

An individual having the GSTIN and IEC can log into the DNK website https://dnk.cept.gov.in/customers.web/ and register oneself. The documents required for upload in the DNK website are IEC, GSTIN, Aadhaar etc, where booking will be permitted only after completion of KYC documents being uploaded.

Once the user profile has been successfully created, the user can start booking of parcels in the comfort of one’s home. When the booking is completed, the article along with a printout copy of the article being booked will be presented to the DNK Post Office for verification and dispatch.

Kamei briefed about the several advantages for the local exporters in using this facility, one which is the absence of middleman. DNK eliminates the middle man, as everything is done online where one can sell their products directly to the customer.

Two being, customs issues are minimized. He said that once an article is booked online, the customs office in Kolkata is immediately alerted when the customer fills in their postal bill of exports. In case of any issues with the booking, the customer will be informed and rectification is possible before the items are sent. The DNK centres will also close the mail bags directly to Foreign Post Office, Kolkata, hence minimizing the time period. Pick-up facility will be provided based on the volume of transaction. He further remarked that it is an opportunity to export the Naga local products abroad.

At present, five DNK centres are established in the State – Kohima Head Post Office, Dimapur MDG, Phek SO, Mokokchung MDG and Jalukie SO. The department aims to extend their branches to the rest of the district headquarters as per the demand of the users, he added. The DNK centres also provide parcel packaging facility, where presently the parcel packaging machine along with packing materials are available at Kohima HO and Dimapur MDG. While the quantity limit per parcel is 35 kg, there will be no limit to the number of items being exported.

Conveying delight that at present, five exporters have registered, Kamei requested all the exporters, big or small to register with them and the team will be ready to guide in the entire process. Nagaland being at a nascent stage of carrying out such businesses, he assured cooperation and handholding on their part until everyone from the business community is on board. He expressed hope that more local items

While the services will be formally launched by the Prime Minister, all the five centres in Nagaland have been activated with the exporters sending items abroad already, Kamei disclosed.
