DBC Kohima NSS Units conducts Clean India Campaign

Kohima, October 25 (MExN): The NSS Units of all of the semesters of Don Bosco College (DBC) Kohima took the initiative of bringing the waste from their homes and localities for the NSS Clean India Campaign on October 21.

As per a DBC release, the programme started with the volunteers bringing their waste from their homes and weighing it.

All the volunteers from each unit participated in giving effort to bringing more waste from their locality as well the college campus and total of 658.17 KG of wastes were collected, it said. The maximum weighed was 1.5 kilogram. 

Out of the 9 NSS units, NSS Unit 9 collected the highest amount of waste of 159.4 KG and the winners for the most weighed wastes of each unit were also awarded gold and a silver medal along with certificates.  

After the cleanliness drive, Dr Kizukala Jamir, HOD, Assistant Professor, Department of Botany highlighted environmental threats caused by non-biodegradable wastes like polythene bags or any plastic materials.

 She gave the various harmful effects plastics have on the environment and how the soil fertility is affected, and how the reproductive organs of humans are severely damaged. 

Dr Jamir further stressed on the usage of better alternatives and saying “No” to plastics, the release added.
