CHÜMOUKEDIMA, NOVEMBER 21 (MExN): The biggest challenges currently facing the Nagaland Police are cybercrime and online financial fraud, stated Sharingain Longkumer, Speaker of the Nagaland Legislative Assembly (NLA) on Wednesday.

Speaking at the closing ceremony of the 40th edition of the Nagaland Police Duty Cum Sports Meet (NPM) 2024 as the special guest, he cited these challenges while highlighting the dynamic nature of policing and the need to evolve with technological advancements.

Longkumer noted that new criminal laws reflect these changes, adding that Nagaland is also undergoing rapid socio-economic and technological transformations, which contribute to these challenges.

In this regard, he expressed hope that the Nagaland Police would address the emerging challenges by strengthening institutional capacity and focusing on both infrastructure and human resources within the department.

As the guardians of peace and order, the Nagaland Police plays a pivotal role in the State’s progress and development, he said, pointing out that  events like the NPM reflect the humane side of policing, showcasing the importance of holistic growth—both professionally and personally.

Such events would serve as stepping stones towards greater achievements, not only in sports but also in the unwavering commitment of the police, driven by the three C’s – Communication, Coordination, and Courtesy, he held.

The NLA Speaker also acknowledged that the Nagaland Police stands tall with a rich legacy and remains one of the most visible and strong arms of the State Government.

It has been in the forefront of maintaining law and order, crime prevention, detection and in providing a sense of security to the citizens of the State, he said.

Longkumer also commended the police for being at the vanguard of the “War on Drugs,” an initiative announced by the State Government, and which the members of the 14th NLA had pledged their support to on Republic Day.

He further highlighted the “supreme sacrifices made by the ‘Naga Force’ in the naxal-affected regions of Chhattisgarh, West Bengal, and other areas of operation”.

The closing ceremony was held at the NAPTC Grounds, Chümoukedima, stated a press release from the organiser.
