Constitution Day observed across Nagaland

DIMAPUR, NOVEMBER 26: Constitution Day or “Samvidhan Divas” was celebrated in Nagaland on November 26 to commemorate the adoption of the constitution of India and as a mark of tribute to Dr. Bhim Rao Ambedkar who played an important role in the framing of Indian constitution.

Raj Bhavan Kohima: Raj Bhavan Kohima observed constitution day at its premises. A press release by PRO Raj Bhavan stated that, the governor gave a brief account of the history of constitution making through broad participation of representation from all the regions of India and significance of the preamble of the constitution. Governor RN Ravi and his wife Laxmi Ravi, family members and staff of Raj Bhavan read the preamble during the short celebration.

NVCO & KLC: Nagaland Voluntary Consumers’ Organisation (NVCO) and Kohima Law College (KLC) observed the day in Kohima. A press release by NVCO press & media cell stated that, NVCO president & asst. professor KLC, Kezhokhoto Savi in his speech said that the day was observed to promote constitution values among citizens and that the constitution of India declared India to be a sovereign, secular, socialist, and democratic republic and assures its citizens, equality, liberty and justice. Savi challenged citizens to take a pledge to fulfil their fundamental duties for the progress of the nation.

NU Lumami: Nagaland University, Lumami conducted the constitution day in online mode through Google Meet, wherein registrar, Dr. Abemo read out the preamble of the Constitution to the participants. A press release by PRO, NU Lumami stated that, vice chancellor prof. Pardeshi Lal, highlighted the importance of the Constitution Day. He also emphasised the need for educational institutions like Nagaland University to be the flag bearer for spreading the message of the constitution makers and the visionary leaders of the like of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar. Transparency officer of NU Lumami, prof. A. K. Singh emphasised the need for inculcating the constitutional values and principles among the citizens, particularly among the youth as they will lead India in the 21st century and beyond. Singh emphasised upon the fact that time has come for citizens of the nation to perform the duties first while asking for the rights incorporated in part III of the constitution. Vote of thanks was given by system administrator, Nagaland University, Zajamo Yanthan in the programme coordinated and chaired by PRO, Nagaland University, Peter Ki.

Noklak: In Noklak, the programme was held at DC conference hall, Noklak on November 26. According to DIPR report, speaking on the importance of constitution, DC Noklak, Reny Wilfred said that, Constitution Day was very important and all were bound to uphold the values of the constitution. He led the members in reading out the preamble of the constitution. SDO (Civil) Noklak, C. Phuniang said the vote of thanks in the programme, chaired by EAC Hq. Yithachu Thur.

SJU: Department of political science, St. Joseph University (SJU) organised a virtual event on the theme “Indian constitution and rights”.

A press release by PRO, SJU stated that keynote speaker of the event, Dr. Chubatila raised issues and challenges related to fundamental and legal rights of citizens especially the child, women, Dalits, and other weaker sections of the society. She pointed out that with so many factors that influenced the enforcement of laws within the Indian state, the question of impartiality by the state have been subjected to critical scrutiny. Lutsoi Lam focused her presentation on the preamble of the Indian constitution, Tnali Aye talked about significance of fundamental rights, Candi Yiuliu presented challenges before the constituent assembly in framing the world’s lengthiest constitution, Judith Khing highlighted significance and importance of directive principles of state policy, Imnajungla Longkumer presented on Indian constitution as a living document and Mhademo Murry explained the importance of fundamental duties. Earlier, the event was chaired by Abetoli Achumi and to provide a platform to UG and PG students, Keppen Sinyhunlo initiated a constitutional related activity wherein six selected students of the department gave presentations on fundamental features of the Indian constitution.

SJGS: In St. Joseph Global School (SJGS) students of lower classes took part in drawing of Indian national flag activity, while students of classes 4 and 5 attended seminar under the topic “Fundamental duties of the Indian Constitution” by Kughani I Sumi.

A press release by SJGS stated that, Zulotola Longchar conducted a seminar on the topic “Fundamental rights of the Indian Constitution” for classes VI-VII, while Tolino V Zhimomi on “Constitutional values and fundamental principles of the Indian Constitution” for class VIII-X.

NSLSA: Nagaland State Legal Services Authority (NSLSA) also celebrated the day in various districts.

Zunheboto: Zunheboto DLSA observed at district court premises, Zunheboto with district court staff, prosecution and PI staff by reading out the preamble. A press release by assistant public relations, NSLSA stated that a speech was delivered by chairman ZDLSA, Khesheli Chishi who spoke on importance of the preamble and relevance of constitution day.

Tuensang: Tuensang DLSA celebrated the day at St. Joseph’s School Tuensang. Welcome note was addressed by St Joseph’s School headmaster, recitation of preamble by secretary Tuensang DSLA, Kumdilong Kessen and project assistant TDSLA Soteth Anar delivered significance of constitution day. The programme was attended by St. Joseph’s students, teaching staff and TDSLA. Tuensang DSLA also conducted essay competition at LLC School under the topic, “evolution of Indian constitution.” Bahurul Islam was adjudged winner of the competition, while Jetei and Aviro Anar stood second and third. The winners were awarded cash prizes and certificates.

Wokha: Wokha DLSA observed with court staff. JMFC/secretary WDLSA, Khrievono Seletsu spoke on significance of the day and district & sessions judge/chairman, Duvelu Vero led recitation of preamble.

Phek: PDLSA celebrated the day at district court complex Phek where panel lawyer Phek DLSA, Vethothi delivered on directive principles of state policy and constitution of India, panel lawyer Phek DLSA, Sekhotso deliberated on fundamental duties and asst public prosecutor Phek, Thejalenuo Jane Solo shared about Indian constitution. Programme was attended by district court staff and PLVs PDLSA. Earlier, the programme was chaired by panel lawyer PDLSA Thomeweu, secy PDLSA, Cheliam Khiamniungan outlined the programme and read out the preamble.
