KOHIMA, DECEMBER 21 (MExN): The Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee (NPCC), along with its frontal organizations and the Kohima District Congress Committee (KDCC), organized a large-scale demonstration at the Congress Bhavan premises in Kohima today. The protest was part of a nationwide movement calling for the resignation of Union Home Minister Amit Shah over his controversial remarks on Dr BR Ambedkar.
Khriedi Theunuo, Working President of NPCC, strongly condemned the remarks made by the Home Minister against Dr BR Ambedkar, the Father of the Indian Constitution. Theunuo emphasized that such remarks threatened the core values upon which India’s democracy was built, urging for accountability at the highest levels of government.
Akuonuo Miachieo, PCC Secretary (Protocol), voiced strong outrage over the Home Minister’s actions, demanding his immediate resignation. Miachieo highlighted that Shah’s words and behaviour displayed a blatant disregard for the fundamental values enshrined in India’s Constitution.
The protest also brought attention to recent disturbing incidents, including the alleged death of Assam Youth Congress member Mridul Islam, reportedly at the hands of Assam Police, and the detention of Youth Congress leaders Zubair Anam and Uday Bhanu Chib in Guwahati. Lima Lemtur, President of the Nagaland Pradesh Youth Congress (NPYC), condemned these events, calling them a grave abuse of power and a direct attack on the principles of democracy.
In addition to these issues, the NPCC strongly denounced the false accusations made by S Phangnon Konyak, Member of Parliament (Rajya Sabha), against Rahul Gandhi, Leader of the Opposition. The NPCC described these baseless claims as attempts to divert attention from more critical issues and to undermine their leadership.
The NPCC has vowed to continue its protests until Home Minister Amit Shah resigns, reaffirming its commitment to protecting the integrity of the Constitution and upholding democratic values.
