Congress to begin statewide tour of Nagaland

KOHIMA, OCTOBER 8 (MExN): AICC Secretary Incharge of Manipur, Sikkim, Nagaland, and Tripura, Christopher Tilak, on October 7, accused the ruling NDPP-BJP coalition in Nagaland of failing to address the pressing needs of the people in Nagaland.

Speaking at an Extended Executive Meeting of the Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee (NPCC) at Congress Bhavan, Kohima, Tilak asserted that the much-promoted “double-engine sarkar” has proven to be a “non-starter” for the state.

Tilak highlighted what he described as the growing disillusionment among the people of the Northeast with the BJP’s inability to deliver on its promises. He pointed to the struggles faced by young Nagas in securing employment, emphasizing that the current government has shown little initiative in creating job opportunities. “The BJP has focused only on electoral numbers and majoritarian politics,” Tilak stated, “while ignoring the critical issues that impact the daily lives and livelihoods of the people in Nagaland.”

According to Tilak, the NDPP-BJP government has also failed to make any headway on the Naga Political Solution, a long-standing issue affecting the region’s stability and progress. He accused the ruling coalition of prioritizing political interests over genuine governance and economic development.

The Congress leader went on to contrast the BJP’s approach with that of his own party, saying that the Congress is committed to connecting with marginalized and underrepresented communities. Citing Rahul Gandhi’s Bharat Jodo Yatra and Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra as examples of grassroots engagement, Tilak underscored the Congress’s focus on inclusive and people-centric policies.

As part of Congress’s efforts to reconnect with the people of Nagaland, Tilak announced plans for a statewide tour, beginning in Eastern Nagaland. This initiative aims to identify and empower leaders from diverse backgrounds, with a particular focus on promoting women in leadership roles. The Congress leader expressed hope that this outreach would strengthen the party’s presence in Nagaland and allow it to address key issues facing the state.
