Staff Reporter DIMAPUR, NOV 26 (NPN) : Raising the slogan “what started online should end online”, students from around 30 colleges in Dimapur protested outside the office of deputy commissioners (DC) Dimapur demanding that the proposed NU undergraduate odd semester exam be conducted in online mode. Around 500 students from across Dimapur took part in the protest.
At the protest site, a student said that the protest was being staged by college students in general and not affiliated to any college or student body.
The protesting student questioned how could the university (NU) conduct offline exams when more than 80% of semester classes were conducted virtually (online mode). He said the college students sought permission from the commissioner of police Dimapur to hold a peaceful rally, but was denied in view of Covid-19 situation. In this regard, one student questioned how could NU hold exams in offline mode when they were not even allowed to hold a peaceful protest in view of Covid-19.
Asked whether the students had approached All Nagaland College Students Union (ANSCU) over the issue, the students maintained that ANSCU had already written to NU authority, but was yet to receive proper information.
On asking whether bad internet connection would hinder online exams, one student maintained that even though the internet connectivity was poor throughout the state, it was “not much of a burden” during exams. He added that internet connectivity affected the students more during online classes.
