CM, cabinet bid adieu to Ravi

DIMAPUR, SEP 15 (NPN) : Nagaland chief minister Neiphiu Rio, along with deputy chief minister Y. Patton, ministers, Advisers, MLAs and bureaucrats bade state farewell to outgoing governor RN Ravi was at the State Banquet Hall, CM’s residential complex, Kohima on Tuesday.

According to DIPR , Rio described Ravi a genuine and a down-to- earth person who worked without any pretension in discharging his duties.

Rio also said Ravi was a sincere and hardworking professional who did what he thought was right without any fear. He lauded Ravi for his commitment not only for the development of Nagaland but also in pushing for early solution to the Naga political issue.

According to Rio as Interlocutor, Ravi did his best for the Naga political issue which led to signing of the landmark Framework Agreement with NSCN (I-M) on August 3, 2015, followed with the signing of Agreed Position with NNPGs on November 17, 2017. These bore ample testimony to his hard work and negotiating skills, Rio added. Rio also thanked Ravi for the many things he had achieved in a difficult situation.

He said Ravi was well acquainted with the Nagas and their long history of struggle and aspiration and also admitted that Ravi’s tenure had its fair share of challenges too. As a governor, Rio said showed genuine concern for development and welfare of Nagaland and carried out whatever was possible within the State’s limited resources to expedite implementation of infrastructure and welfare projects.

Mentioning that Ravi had helped immensely in management of Covid-19 crisis too, Rio said people of Nagaland would remember him as someone who gave his best, both as a governor and Interlocutor.

In his speech, the outgoing governor said he was touched by the love and affection of the people of Nagaland. Ravi begged to differ with Rio’s earlier remark that Tamil Nadu is more advanced then Nagaland. He said though Tamil Nadu may be more advanced industrially ; yet Nagaland was not behind in terms of civilised human values.

Ravi said as a governor, adviser and well-wisher, he worked with the intention of bringing some good to the people of Nagaland, while as an interlocutor he tried to bring the talks from abroad to the land and people where it belong.

Referring to the story when some Naga leaders had met Mahatma Gandhi in July 1947, Ravi said Gandhijihad advised them to choose the path of non-violence, if they wanted to pursue their desire, claiming that Nagas were united till Naga national movement remained non-violent. He pointed out that violence had only divided the Nagas and brought miseries.

The outgoing governor said he and his family would always remain grateful to the people of Nagaland for their love and affection.

Also speaking on the occasion, deputy chief minister Y Patton lauded Ravi’s passion for understanding the core issues concerning any development matter and using his good office for ensuring removal of any impediment or complication that could hamper progress. He mentioned that Ravi had ensured smooth and early completion of some critical and beneficial projects for the people of the State.

Patton also expressed his immense gratitude to the outgoing governor for his time and concern for the people of Nagaland. He said the State would continue to be inspired by the advice and exemplary statesmanship of Ravi.

In his speech, leader of NPF Legislative Party TR Zeliang said Ravi’s name was synonymous with the Indo-Naga political issue, and expressed the hope that the outgoing governor would continue to support Naga people for their quest for an amicable solution to the Naga political issue by keeping his close association with all sections of Naga society.

Chairing the programme, chief secretary J Alam said Ravi was an Indian Police Service officer of 1976 batch (Kerala Cadre) and had served the country with distinction, before retiring in 2012 as special director of Intelligence Bureau. From 2014, Ravi had been functioning as Centre’s interlocutor for Naga peace talk and took oath as governor of Nagaland on August 1, 2019.

Earlier, invocation prayer was pronounced by pastor Shan Kikon and a musical and cultural programme was presented by TaFMA. This was stated in a DIPR release.
KPC boycotts
Meanwhile, Ravi’s farewell function was boycotted by the Kohima Press Club (KPC) on the ground that he refused to give any interviews or hold interactions with the local press during his entire tenure.
In a statement KPC president Alice Yhoshü said “This unprecedented step is being taken keeping in mind how Ravi has treated the Press and Media fraternity with utter disregard during his two years in office.”
