NBCC to create awareness on CEM through bike rally

The Nagaland Baptist Church Council (NBCC) is all set to create awareness on the Clean Election Movement (CEM) through a bike rally from May 31. This rally is part of the NBCC’s year-long celebration of 150 years of Christianity coming to Nagaland under the theme ‘His Story.’

NBCC General Secretary Rev Dr Zelhou Keyho said that the rally will propagate the message of 150 years of Christianity in Nagaland and also create awareness at the grassroots level on the CEM, started by NBCC in 1973.

“Clean election is for everyone. Clean election movement is a movement to define our future,” said Rev Dr Keyho while addressing a press conference here.

Stating that something is not right with the electioneering system in the state, he said if proxy voting, double entry of name and taking bribe can be done away with, “I think we will able to see a bright future.”

He was hopeful that things will go well and people will come forward to advocate and be ambassadors of the Clean Election Movement (CEM).

‘CEM not against any political party’
Dr Villo Naleo, Core Committee Convener of CEM said that the objective is to create a positive step in the society, to adhere to the democratic principle of the state and in the country for a peaceful and harmonious living, fight for the truth and live for the truth.

Stating that the CEM is not against any political party, he said that it is a social responsibility that the church is engaging in. He hoped that every association and church will take ownership of this movement and take it to the grassroots.
Naleo informed that 150 bikers from 20 constituent associations and 4 associate members of NBCC will join the bike rally, scheduled for May 31 to June 1.

NBCC Youth Secretary, N Suhuto Chishi informed that the rally will start from Dimapur and pass through Medziphema, Kohima town, Tseminyu town, Wokha-VK Town, Impur (ABAM Mission Centre), Mokokchung- Akuluto Town- Zunheboto- Satakha town- Chozuba town and conclude at the NBCC Headquarter office, Bayavü Hill, Kohima.

Meanwhile, the yearlong celebration of 150 years of coming of Christianity to Nagaland will culminate on November 19-20 in Kohima as well as in all the churches in Nagaland.

The ABCD’s of Clean Election Movement

The 4 A’s of CEM
• Abstain from indulging in election feasts and partying
• Avoid tempering your date of birth
• Avoid soliciting or giving money, liquor and things for your vote or others
• Avoid proxy voting

The 4 B’s of CEM
• Beware of indulgence practices by church leaders
• Boldly speak against village/khel/clan consensus candidate
• Be firm in your witness for Christ in elections (God will honour you)
• Buying and selling of vote is sinful (It is dishonoring God )

The Four C’s of CEM
• Clean vote, clean process will usher clean future
• Campaign against corruption and any unethical forms of voting
• Challenge anomalies in electoral roll and any kind of undemocratic practices
• Call for a common platform for all parties

The Four D’s of CEM
• Do not manipulate, misguide or threaten others against their choice in voting
• Delete double entry voters roll (Never have double voter id)
• Do not declare your support for any candidate (Secret Ballot is the way)
• Demonstrate clean Christian character
