Staff Reporter DIMAPUR, OCT 25 (NPN) : In a show of solidarity with the family of a 17-year-old girl who was murdered on October 22, a candlelight vigil and service was held at ADC court junction here on Sunday. Participating at the event, leaders of various organisations expressed their grief and horror at the incident.

Delivering a short speech on the occasion, Dimapur Lotha Students’ Union (DLSU) president Benthungo Jungi said the programme was organised to show public support and solidarity to the family of the deceased. He also described the deceased as an innocent and obedient student, and was also a member of DLSU family.

Terming the incident as “disheartening”, Jungi asserted that such reprehensible deeds had absolutely no place in the society, even as he conveyed his condolences to the bereaved family.

In his speech, Lotha Hoho Dimapur chairman YL Jami quoted a verse from the book of John 3:16, 17. While technology has become important and part of “our life”, he observed that it has both advantages and disadvantages. He exhorted the young people to live an honest life and abide by the law of the land.

Dimapur Naga Students’ Union (DNSU) president Sedevilie Angami extended solidarity to the bereaved and prayed for the departed soul to rest in peace. Appreciating the swift action by the police in nabbing the accused in connection with the incident, the DNSU president demanded thorough investigation and trial, besides awarding befitting punishment to the culprits involved.

In a brief speech, a family member of the deceased expressed their gratitude to organisers of the event and showing their support to the family during this hour of grief.

Leaders of Lotha Eloe Ekhung Dimapur, Lotha Youth Organization Dimapur and Lower Ranger Officers’ and Elders’ Forum also conveyed their condolences to the bereaved and prayed to God to give them strength at this hour of sorrow.

The programme was chaired by SBC women leader Mhalo Kithan, while Lotha Baptist Church Dimapur associate pastor Yanbemo Ovung was the speaker.
