Staff Reporter DIMAPUR, JUL 21 (NPN) : Core Committee on Naga Political Issue (CCoNPI) led by chief minister Neiphiu Rio (convener) held its first meeting after its formation with the seven-member Working Committee of the NNPGs at Niathu Resort here Tuesday.
The meeting also coincided with the move to form an opposition-less assembly besides resuming consultations after a long break due to lockdown.
Speaking to the media persons after coming out from the two-hour long meeting, WC of NNPGs convener N Kitovi Zhimomi expressed satisfaction with the outcome of Tuesday’s meeting. “We are very much satisfied and there is nothing to be confused as of now,” he said. Asked whether NNPGs were prepared to sit across the table with NSCN (I-M) to hammer out the differences, WC convenor said “there is no differences with the NSCN (I-M)”.
Stating that Naga problem was with the government of India, Zhimomi said “when we have resolved our differences with government of India, there is no reason why should there be differences among the Nagas.”
On asking whether NNPGs were contemplating sitting with NSCN (I-M) officially, WC convenor said that “as and when the government of India invites for signing the document, we will sit across…sign the agreement…because there would be only one agreement and one solution.”
Also speaking to media, state chief minister Neiphiu Rio said the process was still on and the committee was trying to understand the problems and obstacles so that all could work “Unitedly” and “Collectively” to pursue settlement.
Earlier, before the consultative meeting commenced chief minister said that it was convened to brief the NNPGs and later NSCN (I-M) about the formation of the Core Committee in order to pursue the aspirations of the Nagas.
State deputy CM Y Patton on the other hand appealed to all the Naga political groups to unite since the government of India had been very clear on “one solution and one settlement”.
NPF leader TR Zeliang said that with the coming together of all elected representatives under the umbrella of the Core Committee, there was now a consensus to work together and pursue for an early political solution. Zeliang also informed that the core committee would be meeting the NSCN (I-M) leadership on July 21 at 10 a.m. at Chümoukedima police complex.
