The Indian National Congress continued its media blitz against the BJP-NDPP ruling coalition as Nagaland heads for elections to the 14th Legislative Assembly elections on February 27. Supriya Shrinate, Chairperson of Social Media and Digital Platforms of the All India Congress Committee (AICC), at a press conference in Dimapur, on February 13, accused the BJP-NDPP alliance of failing to deliver on their “election for solution” promise made in the lead up to the 2018 Assembly elections.

On the governance front, Shrinate alleged that in contrast to the poor state of infrastructure and lack of development, particularly in Eastern Nagaland, the wealth and assets of the state Chief Minister was growing. While terming it a result of massive corruption in the ruling government, she also criticized the BJP for its false claims of development, pointing to the poor road and power conditions in the state.

Shrinate further claimed that Nagaland was the worst performer on poverty alleviation, health and well-being, and infrastructure, according to NITI Aayog’s North Eastern Region District Sustainable Development Goal Index. She added that corruption and lack of development had negatively impacted the youth of the state, who lacked access to world-class sporting facilities and job opportunities.

Shrinate went to outline the Congress’ poll promises, which include increasing monthly old-age pensions to ₹3000, building a mini secretariat in Tuensang, full and timely payment of MGNREGA dues, providing interest-free loans for higher education, providing clean drinking water to every household, and compulsory vocational youth training after HSLC, among others. She called on the people of Nagaland to hold those in power accountable and elect a government that would work towards their development and progress.
