Benjamin Yepthomi assumes office as President of BJP Nagaland

Kohima, September 29 (MExN): Benjamin Yepthomi has officially taken office as the 11th president of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Nagaland during a handing-over cum felicitation program held at the party headquarter in Kohima on September 28.

He assumed the charge in the presence of BJP General Secretary (Org) in charge of Nagaland and Manipur, Abhay Giri, BJP legislators, and party karyakartas (workers).

Yepthomi was appointed as the new president of BJP Nagaland on September 25 by the party’s National President, Jagat Prakash Nadda, replacing Temjen Imna Along, BJP legislator and the Minister for Tourism and Higher Education.

Meanwhile, delivering his presidential speech, Yepthomi said that BJP Nagaland is a party that understands the aspirations of the Naga people, reported by All India Radio (AIR) News Kohima. 

Further noting that a party is known by its people, he urged the members to uphold the ‘party’s ideology and work for the best interests of the people and society.’

To this end, he called upon the karyakartas to make BJP a “party of unity and a party united on all fronts,” the report said. 

The new president also encouraged the karyakartas on the need to strengthen the party at the grassroots and booth levels. As president, he informed that he had taken a pledge “not to divide the party but to strengthen the party on every platform,” it added.

Yepthomi also expressed his appreciation to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, National BJP President J P Nadda, Home Minister Amit Shah, and General Secretary (Organization) B L Santosh for appointing him to lead the party in Nagaland. 

He also extended his gratitude to the outgoing President, Imna Along; BJP Legislature Party (BLP) Leader and Deputy Chief Minister Y Patton, and all karyakartas, and sought their support and to work together with the mantra given by PM Modi, “Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas, Sabkga Vishwas, Sabka Prayaas.”

Speaking on the occasion, outgoing President Imna Along noted that the BJP has chosen a young dynamic leader and exuded hope that Yepthomi will carry with vigor and zeal and continue to infuse the idea and the vision of “Service is above service.” 

He also urged the karyakartas to assist the state president in the forefront. He further said that he would continue to act as a bridge between the legislators and the party.

Later, sharing the photo of handing over the presidential baton to Yepthomi on X (formerly Twitter), Imna Along posted: “My best wishes for a fruitful tenure ahead and may he lead the state unit to greater heights.”

BLP Leader Y Patton said Yepthomi’s appointment is a testament to the BJP’s firm belief in rewarding dedicated karyakartas who have given their sweat and toil for the party’s growth and development. 

With his rich experience, wisdom, and dedication, I am confident the party will continue to grow from strength to strength, he later updated on X.”
