Art teacher upskilling workshop in Nagaland

Kohima, March 24 (MExN): The Saturday Art Class (SArC) in association with Directorate of School Education, Nagaland, Kohima has recently conducted the state’s first- ever Art Teacher Upskilling Workshop, marking a milestone in enhancing visual arts education across government schools in Nagaland.

This workshop aim to strengthen Visual Arts education while equipping teachers with the skills to integrate the principles of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, fostering holistic, creative, and interdisciplinary learning in classrooms. The initiative reflects a commitment to empowering educators and enriching student learning experiences through art.

SArC is a non-profit education organization providing visual arts and Social- Emotional Learning (SEL) to students from low-income communities in India during their formative years, creating a safe space to express themselves and build essential skills to thrive.

This art teacher workshops took place on March 12, 13, 17 and 18 last with the participation of 282 drawing teachers from Grades 1 to 8 across 17 districts of Nagaland.

Empowering art teachers, this initiative has laid the foundation for art to become a core element of learning in government schools, helping students develop artistic skills and creative confidence, problem-solving abilities and collaboration and self-expression, according to a workshop report received here.

The workshop covered Kiphire, Pungro, Tizit, Longleng, Mon, Tuensang, Aboi, Wakching, Tobu, Seyochung, Noklak, Kohima, Chiephobozou, Zunheboto, Pughoboto, Atoizu, Satakha, Bhandari, Wokha, Dimapur, Peren, Niuland, Phek, Chozuba, Pfutsero, Shamator, Mokokchung, Medziphema, Tseminyu, Chumoukedima and Meluri.

According to the findings, 87% of participants (182 out of 207) plan to actively use Creative Art Express in their classrooms, demonstrating high acceptance and readiness to apply the resource.
