Mokokchung, February 25 (MExN): The Ao Senden, in collaboration with the Ao Lanur Telongjem and Mokokchung Town Lanur Telongjem, conducted an on-site inspection of the Mariani-Mokokchung road (National Highway 702D) on February 24 to assess its deteriorating condition and monitor ongoing repair works.

The inspection team was accompanied by government representatives, including the EAC of Ongpangkong Block, Dobashis, Mangkolemba Sub-division SDO, Executive Engineer of National Highways Mokokchung Division, Er. Limatoshi, and contractor Ghunavi Aye of M/s Affluent Enterprises & Services.

Highlighting the highway’s significance as a vital economic lifeline for Mokokchung and surrounding districts, the Ao Senden expressed concern over its poor condition, which has long affected commuters and truckers transporting essential goods.

During a stop at Changki village, the entourage was received by the Changki Village Council, which raised concerns over inadequate drainage systems. The council urged authorities to ensure proper drainage to maintain the road’s usability throughout the year.

The Public Works Department (PWD) of the National Highways Division assured the team that the ongoing project would be completed by March 14. Ao Senden Vice President Tinukaba stressed the need for timely completion before the onset of the monsoon, warning that delays could significantly hinder progress. He also called for improvements in drainage to ensure year-round motorable conditions.

Contractor Ghunavi Aye assured that the road construction would be completed without delay. He noted that Phases 1 and 2 of the project were finished, while Phase 3—focused on soil stabilization—would commence soon, pending formal communication from Guwahati.

Representatives from the Truckers Union echoed concerns about drainage, citing frequent challenges faced during monsoon seasons. In response, Aye pledged to complete the remaining work swiftly, even if it meant extending the project beyond its current deadline of March 14, 2025.
