‘AMAJOK aser tanga otsütem’ a short story book in Ao language written by Maongienla, Assistant Professor, Department of English, Fazl Ali College (FAC) was released at Conference hall, FAC on August 5. Rev Dr M Rongsen, President, Ao Riju released the book while Lima Lemdor, Pastor, FAC Union Church, pronounced the dedicatory prayer.
Dr I Wati Imchen, Principal, FAC in his welcome address, thanked the author for choosing FAC for the release of the book while also welcoming everyone to the event.
In her speech, the author, Maongienla, thanked all individuals who contributed towards the successful completion of the book. She specifically mentioned two of her former students who contributed to the design of her book cover and illustrations inside the book. She also expressed her gratitude towards the Department of English, FAC for their support and help throughout the writing of her book.
Bendangsenla, Associate Professor, Department of English, FAC, gave a review of the book where she stated that the book ‘AMAJOK aser tanga otsütem’ unlike other short stories, is tied to a character by the name of Aonaro. It is not stated in the stories, but as one reads through the stories, one can connect.
She also claimed that because the stories in the book are personal accounts of real people, ordinary individuals can relate to them. Bendangsenla further added that the characters in the stories are not explained in detail, but their ways and behaviors explain the biography of a character, and this, she said, is the talent of the author, while also adding that in many books, the characters tend to be the mouthpiece of the author, but the characters have no agenda for the author in this book.
She concluded that the work captures the angst of a housewife and the feeling of lack that women suffer in society.
The programme was chaired by Repabenla, Assistant Professor Department of Ao, FAC. The book will be available for purchase on Amazon website.
