Aircraft movement in Dimapur Airport doubles in 3 years

Aircraft movement in Nagaland’s lone airport in Dimapur has more than doubled during the last three financial years (FY), according to the Union Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region (DoNOR).

In FY 2020-21, Dimapur Airport recorded a total of 2529 landings or take-offs, which nearly doubled to 4848 in 2021-22.

In 2021-2023, the Aircraft movement further increased to 5415 reflecting an increase in landings or take-offs by 2886 during the last three years or by over 111%. 

Airport-wise data provided by the Minister of State, DoNOR BL Verma in a written reply in the Rajya Sabha on December 14 further informed that aircraft movements were recorded in 17 airports in the North-East. All the eight NE states now have air connectivity, he highlighted. 

Under the UDAN Scheme, 36 Airports/Heliports/Water Aerodromes have been identified in the NE States for development and operation of RCS (Regional Connectivity Scheme) flights, and 68 RCS routes have already been operationalised so far, he added.

In 2022-23, Aircraft movement was highest at Guwahati Airport (45909), followed by Agartala (12203) and Imphal (12098).
