Aggrieved Nagaland Police personnel whose appointments were quashed by the Gauhati High Court, Kohima Bench staged a peaceful rally outside the Police Headquarters, Kohima in the morning on February 28.
Around 150 constables representation different units in Nagaland were seen outside PHq holding placards resenting the move. The personnel, mostly uniformed representatives of the police, during the silent protest were those appointed during 2018-2020 period.

They held placards; some of which read, ‘Why only 2018-2020 batch,’ ‘We have taken oath of allegiance,’ ‘Set course for the future but don’t punish the past,’ ‘We are COVID Frontline warriors,’ Why only Police Department, Why recruitment again,’ ‘We don’t want another faction,’ among others.
The rally was held from 10 am to 11 am after securing approval from the district administration.
The personnel after holding an hour long ‘closed door meeting’ with the Director General of Police (DGP) Rupin Sharma submitted a memorandum. However, the details of the memorandum were not disclosed either by the police administration or the aggrieved personnel.

When asked, a representative from the protesting group informed that they are still adhering to their duty and urged the public to be compassionate towards them as they are also Naga brothers and sisters. The representative declined to furnish any details of their demands, and said it was all what they had written in the placards.
Soon after the meeting with the DGP and submission of memorandum, the gathering dispersed.
According to the Additional Superintendent of Police (Addl SP), Kohima and Public Relations Officer (PRO) Soriso K, a total of 1,138 police personnel from the 2018–2020 batch were affected by the court’s September order last year.
The order had nullified their recruitment, citing irregularities and ordered fresh recruitment in 6 months.
Almost all of the affected personnel belong to units under the state’s Home Department.
The quashing of appointment had come about after a group petition was filed in the Gauhati High Court, Kohima Bench in 2023 challenging the appointments, stating that they were selected “without undertaking any valid process of recruitment and without the publication of any kind of advertisement.”
