DIMAPUR, DECEMBER 19 (MExN): The Assisi Centre for Integrated Development (ACID) through the support of MZF and NDWM Nagaland Region commemorated International Migrants Day on December 18 at Rio Sewak in Dimapur.
Sr. Pramila expressed that “we gather to reflect upon the profound impact of migration on individuals, communities, and our interconnected world. This day serves as a poignant reminder that migration is not merely about crossing borders; it is about the pursuit of hope, opportunity, and a better life.”
In a world marked by diverse cultures, traditions, and stories, migration weaves a tapestry that celebrates the resilience and courage of millions who venture into the unknown, she stated. She added that it is a day to acknowledge and honor the contributions of migrants who enrich societies with their talents, skills, and unique perspectives.
“Here in Dimapur, be it domestic workers, construction workers or any other, they contribute a lot. They help one another to make their living better. But how many of us recognise their skills, contribution and generosity? It’s up to us to reflect,” she encouraged.
Sr Pramila called upon all to recognize the challenges faced by migrants — the sacrifices, the resilience in the face of adversity, and the undeniable strength that propels them forward. “It is a day to advocate for fair and humane treatment, irrespective of one’s origin, and to emphasize the shared responsibility we bear in fostering a world where every person is afforded the dignity they deserve,” she added.
In a time where borders can seem like barriers, she urged people to choose to see them as bridges that connect. Let us strive for a world where migration is not driven by necessity alone but also by the celebration of diversity and the pursuit of shared prosperity, she added.
She further called for collective efforts to building bridges of understanding, empathy, and cooperation. “Together, let us work towards a world where the journey of every migrant is met with compassion, and where the tapestry of our shared humanity is woven with threads of inclusivity, respect, and justice,” Sr Pramila said.
“It’s not enough in commemorating this day but respect, understanding should come from each. We domestic workers go and in our employers house. Let us stand united and mark this day in a different way,” she emphasised.
The programme was compered by Abigail and Punam. CRM children invoked God’s blessings during the event which saw attendance of 98 participants.
