DIMAPUR , October 16: Ao Baptist Arogo Mungdang (ABAM) and Yimkhiung Baptist Boru Amukhungto (YBBA) organised a Clean Election Movement (CEM) exchange programme on October 13 at Shamator, the mission center of YBBA,
A press release, ABAM informed that ABAM executive secretary, Rev. Dr. Mar Pongener said that crookedness of electioneering system had halted people from progressing and that it could be obliterated only by practice of truth during election. He added that this movement was a direction towards maintaining true Christian disciplines which saw no human status but located true character of person while electing leaders.
ABAM CEM representatives Rev. Dr. Noklen, convener, ABAM CEM, Puryapang, Pastor Yimyu BC, and secretary, ABAM YM, Toshi Sanglir also said that election in Nagaland had been deteriorating Nagas in all corners. They exhorted that the livelihood was under challenge, which they said was a direct outcome of “leadership crises”.
They called the people to abide by the rules and maintain a fair and clean election by saying “no to money, power, and employment promises”, so that the people would have a future with cluster of developments and opportunities for young people in particular.
Responding to call for clean election from ABAM CEM; YBBA, Yimkhiung Tribal Council, Women, and Students’ Union stated that they were determined to work for fair and clean election at any cost.
Referring to malpractices during election, they stated that economic instability was one big reason for malfunctioning.
Yimkhiung Tribal leaders also stated that success significantly depended on how determined and committed the church was.
“If church could give total commitment, change is very near”, they said.
The programme was attended by representatives of ABAM CEM, YBBA CEM, Yimkhiung Tribal Council, Women, and Students’ Union.
