Nagaland’s Deputy Chief Minister, TR Zeliang, announced today that the state government’s proposal for an international airport at the Rüzaphema area has been approved by the Airports Authority of India (AAI). This approval came after the AAI’s Technical Teams surveying the area to assess its feasibility for the airport, he stated.
“This vision could become a reality once Nagaki City is developed. If that happens, we will be part of the Smart City initiative in a more significant way.” Zeliang made these remarks while addressing the inaugural program of the Baptist School at Ngwalwa, organized by the Zeme Baptist Church Council’s education department.
The Deputy Chief Minister further emphasized that the state government plans to establish Nagaki (Green City), a Model Township. This project is part of a larger initiative aimed at creating a sustainable and well-planned city, with the state government actively acquiring land for the development. “We can visualize this vision of a model town becoming a reality, especially since there will be no issues with water supply, power supply, and road/rail connectivity,” he said.
Zeliang expressed his satisfaction with the major road development projects underway in the Northern Zeme area, particularly in Ngwalwa. These include NH 29 (Jalukie via Jornapani-Ngwalwa), NH 129A (Maram-Peren-Dimapur via Ngwalwa), and the Foothill Road, which will pass through Kukidolong-Ngwalwa Town-Jalukie-Khelma. Additionally, the new Dimapur-Kohima railway line will pass through the Northern Zeme area, with a sub-station near Punglwa Sainik School. Once completed, these developments will significantly transform the region, Zeliang said.
He added that the completion of the National Highway will provide direct access to nearby places such as Dimapur, Chümoukedima, Kohima, and other villages, facilitating the movement of people, goods, and services. Improved connectivity will enable villagers to reach new markets for their products, services, and labor, fostering increased economic activity and job creation.
The development of the National Highway will also attract businesses like restaurants, hotels, and retail shops, offering villagers access to essential services and amenities. Furthermore, it will enhance connectivity, making it easier for villagers to access better healthcare facilities, educational institutions, and specialized services in nearby towns and cities.
Zeliang pointed out that the presence of NH-129A would increase property values, making Ngwalwa Village more attractive for investment and development. He also highlighted the benefits for villagers, including better access to emergency services such as ambulances, fire brigades, and police in case of accidents or emergencies. Overall, the completion of National Highway 129A will significantly improve the quality of life for villagers by providing better access to opportunities, services, and amenities, he remarked.
