9 arrested in connection with Chungtia murder case

MOKOKCHUNG, MARCH 7 (MExN): The Mokokchung Police has arrested 9 persons in connection with the murder of a man, whose body was recovered on February 22 between Satier and New Camp under Koridang Assembly Constituency. 

A press release from the Mokokchung Police identified the arrested individuals as Chubanichet (31), Meyalepden (49), Chepdakmayang (28), Tongpangtsuba (40), Lipoktemsu (28), Imtizachet (27), Supongsunep (35), Temsuakum (32), and Bendangsunep (29). 

The Mokokchung Police informed that on February 21, a written FIR was received at PS-II stating that Imkongjiba Kichu from Chungtia village was attacked between Satier and New Camp area by some unknown miscreants and had gone missing. 

On receipt of the report, Police personnel rushed to the spot for verification and search was conducted but the victim could not be located, it informed. The next day, on February 22, the body of late Imkongjiba Kichu was recovered in the isolated jungles between Satier and New Camp. The Mokokchung Police informed that its team rushed to the spot and identified the deceased and an inquest was conducted in the presence of the Magistrate and other witnesses. 

Post mortem was conducted the following day. A murder case was registered at Mokokchung PS-II for investigation. A District level SIT (Special Investigation Team) headed by SDPO Mokokchung was set-up to investigate into the case. 

The Mokokchung Police said that the SIT has been conducting a “thorough and professional investigation in the case connection.” “Various technical evidences including CDR, CCTV footages were collected and analysed. In the process of investigation, the SIT has summoned and examined more than 30 people till the filing of this report. Based on technical and other evidences the SIT has so far arrested 9 persons in connection with the case,” it informed. 

The SIT has also conducted Crime Scene Construction and recovered various evidences from the crime scene including the suspect weapons (wooden stick about 3 ft.) with blood stains from the place of occurrence in the presence of witnesses and Magistrate. Further investigation of the case is still ongoing, the police added.
