In his four-and-a-half-year period of looking after the Education Department, KT Sukhalu, Advisor to School Education & SCERT, said “I have faced the most ultimatums among all the departments of our state.” He was addressing the presentation of the ‘Medha Chatravriti Scholarships 2022,’ an initiative of the Indian Oil Corporation Ltd to the first 75 Girl Toppers of the HSLC Examination 2022 conducted by the NBSE at Capital Convention Centre on Thursday.
Highlighting that the department is addressing every ultimatum, one by one, Sukhalu affirmed that “we are trying our best to reform many things in the department either knowingly or unknowingly committed by our former leaders and officers.”
“There are many rectifications that are required in our department, and we are trying our best to address so that at a time when you complete your studies—you might want to become teachers, things will be easier for you and you won’t be joining the group of people serving ultimatums to the government”, he told the 75 Girl Toppers.
He said it would take time but thanked all the officers who have been sincere in their duties. “They are working hard for your future”, he expressed and expressed belief that like the Education Department, other departments in the state are also trying to improve their functioning.
He observed that “there are people who will always criticise, people who are always 24/7 on social media, talking trash and giving misinformation.” “Please don’t be carried away by that”, he advised.
‘Girls will be the masters’
As an ardent advocator of girl’s education, he said that, “I can foresee a time when the girls will be the masters.” Based on the results of the HSLC & HSSLC examinations, he noted that the girls are doing exceedingly better than the boys.
Advising the 75 girl children to dream of becoming leaders, he emphasized that they can contribute a lot if they are doing well in their exams and studies. “I am sure it is moulding you up to be someone in life.”
In the future, “don’t just be a housewife”, he advised. Generally in Nagaland, he observed that “housewives are also very active but there are some communities where the wife is in the house 24/7.” With good education being given to them, he urged them to pursue their dreams while adding, “don’t dampen your future. Today’s world has so much to give but you have to be wise enough to know what to take and where to go.”
As they become adults and evolve in life, he asked them to be prepared to face the world and be confident. I can assure you that if you are true to yourself, you can become someone, he said.
Meanwhile, he appreciated the Indian Oil Corporation, one of the biggest public sector undertakings for coming forward with this scholarship. While this is not the first time they are doing CSR in Nagaland, he highlighted that it is the first time that they are coming to the Education Department.
Indian Oil Day
Coinciding with the 63rd Indian Oil Day, the first 75 Girl Toppers of HSLC Examination 2022 received a cash award of Rs 10,000 each under the educational scholarship scheme of Indian Oil Corporation Ltd.
