GOVERNOR LAUDS FOUNDING FATHERS(NPC)

DIMAPUR, NOV 30 (NPN): Nagaland will celebrate its 58th statehood day on Tuesday, but this year the celebrations would be a low-key affair due to the pandemic.

“The main programme of the statehood day celebrations will be held with limited invitees at the Secretariat Plaza where Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio will be present,” news agency PTI quoted officials as saying.

Raj Bhavan would also remember the sacrifice and struggle of the founding fathers who conceptualised the idea of Naga nationalism and sovereignty, they said. As part of Statehood Day, the bust of Dr Imkongliba Ao would be unveiled at Raj Bhavan Kohima. On December 1, 1963, Dr S Radhakrishnan, then President of India, declared Nagaland as the 16th State of the Indian Union.

Governor’s message: On the eve of the 58th Nagaland statehood Day on December 1,2020 , Nagaland Governor R.N.Ravi has greeted the people of Nagaland on the occasion by paying tributes to the ‘Founding Fathers of Nagaland’- leaders of Naga People’s Convention(NPC) besides martyrs and countless Nagas whose blood, toil, sweat and sacrifices had led to the birth of Nagaland as the 16th state of the Union of India.

On the occasion, the Governor recalled with deep gratitude, the state’s Founding Fathers for their “strategic foresight and political vision in uniting Nagas in Assam and NEFA” to create the beautiful state with “extraordinary safeguards to their unique identity and interests.” Further the Governor maintained that the Founding Fathers achieve what was otherwise unthinkable because what was achieved could never have been achieved through violence. However, the Governor said the “protracted armed insurgency and endless peace process have taken an unacceptable heavy toll on the people of Nagaland . He said “Since 1980, the people of Nagaland have suffered enormously by the guns of people from outside the state, inspired by Maoist ideology and tactics”.

Ravi also reminded that the government of India “has never ever talked, much less negotiated with anyone on the territorial integrity and sovereignty of the Country” and warned that any “misadventure to disintegrate this great Nation shall not be tolerated.”

Ravi reminded that the government of India “is absolutely clear, that there is and there shall be only one National Flag and Constitution of India” and that anyone talking anything contrary “ is peddling preposterous lies” adding , “they are trying to confuse and mislead people.”
