In anticipation of the second Nagaland International Trade Expo, scheduled to be held from January 18 to 22 at Senden Riju, Dimapur, organisers have mentioned that beyond merely being an exhibition hub, the five day event will be a confluence of entrepreneurs, bankers, policy makers, people from the automotive industry among others, creating a space from them to interact and build connections.
BAN President, L Mongkum Jamir, at a press conference held on January 17 at the venue highlighted the key features of each day of the expo. Jamir stated that the core aspect will be to promote Nagaland’s entrepreneurs, creating market linkages, research; collaboration and identifying key areas where the infrastructure and support is needed.
The expo is being organised in collaboration with the Business Association of Nagas (BAN), National SC-ST Hub, National Small Industries Corporation (NSIC), Ministry of Micro, Small & Medium Enterprises (MSME), Government of India and Government of Nagaland.
It is expected that Narayan Rane, Union Minister for MSME will be present to inaugurate the trade fair, Jamir said.
Each of the days will feature separate sessions on start-ups, tourism and logistics which will be graced by the presence of Chief Minister, Neiphiu Rio to give the keynote address, he revealed further.
“We will have live performances on stone, wood crafting and fiber crafting.”
A Temjen Jamir, Director of Industries and Commerce meanwhile noted that the expo will also provide an awareness programme for the recently launched, PM Vishwakarma scheme particularly in regard to traditional artisans and craftsmen engaged in masonry work, carpentry, blacksmith, finishing nets etc. The scheme aims to give certification and recognition for these works while also providing them training, tool kits and financial incentives through loans.
“As of now in 13 districts of Nagaland, we have 3152 applications have been received, with 981 applications from Mon district,” he said in regard to the scheme.
A stall of NSIC will be set up at the venue which will help provide information on bank set, support in production, financial assistance, said Vijay Prakash, General Manager of NSIC.
During the crucial session on the logistic sector of the state, Inoto Kinimi, convenor of Import/ Export/ Logistics standing committee, explained that it will delve into areas exploring inland waterways, airways and railways needed in a landlocked state like Nagaland.
The organisers also reported that a total of 140 stalls will be set up at the expo showcasing, trading, automobiles, manufacturing and participation from several government departments.
