DIMAPUR, JUNE 13 (MExN): The United Sangtam Students’ Conference (USSC) today highlighted poor infrastructure including classroom facilities, poor sanitation and hygiene, and insufficient textbooks, laboratories, and computers in schools under its jurisdiction.
It further informed that 28 schools under Sangtam jurisdiction are operating without Hindi, Science, and Mathematics teachers.
A press release from the USSC informed that it conducted the first phase of its educational tour under its jurisdiction from April 13 to June 3 with the aim to ensure delivery of quality education for students. During its visit, the conference held interactive sessions with teaching and non-teaching faculties, and deliberated the grievances encountered by the schools and students.
“Such issues are causing severe consequences for students, ranging from poor academic performance to health care concerns,” the USSC said.
It further learnt that most of the teachers have been transferred to other districts without relievers being assigned to their positions. This situation has created a significant shortage of teachers in its region, which adversely affects students’ academic career, the USSC said.
Further, the conference said that some teachers were “self-style/unofficially attached” to the department and elected legislators “which is directly hampering the students.” It said that the conference will not compromise under any circumstances and demanded that the concerned authority detach such teachers immediately.
It cautioned elected representative and departments not to entertain any attachment, but rather appeal for more development in the region, especially in the education and health sectors.
The conference appealed to the Principal Director, School Education to look into these issues and deploy the required teachers within the allocated time frame. “If the department fails to meet the aforementioned urgent demands, the conference is compelled to go for a democratic agitation,” it added.
