PEREN, FEBRUARY 12 (MExN): A facilitation meeting for the National Highway 129A Package-1 Peren Town portion was held at the Town Hall in Peren on February 11. Deputy Chief Minister, Planning & Transformation, and National Highways, TR Zeliang, graced the meeting as the honored guest.
In his speech, Zeliang highlighted the importance of proper road development. He addressed the compensation issues related to National Highway 129A (Sections 1 to 5) and mentioned that the District Administration and stakeholders were given full discretion in handling the matter. Zeliang expressed his happiness that Peren has finally seen positive results, noting that the long struggle for a 2-lane road in the town had been successful, a DIPR report stated.
Zeliang explained that the project, covering 2.8 km, had been sanctioned at an unprecedented cost of over 90 crore rupees for just 2.8 km. This cost includes damage compensation and civil costs, with the civil works alone amounting to 50.5 crore rupees for the 2.8 km stretch.
He encouraged the public to cooperate with the District Administration to resolve the damage compensation issues, allowing work to begin as soon as possible. Zeliang also mentioned that the Technical Evaluation is currently underway at NHIDCL headquarters, with four firms having participated in the bidding process.
He further noted that the blacktopping in the town area will be 10 meters wide, and the Right of Way (ROW) will vary between 16 and 24 meters. Zeliang stated that the project is expected to be completed within 18 months from the appointed start date. He added that the successful implementation of this project will significantly improve the infrastructure of Peren Town.
Anand Kumar, Dy General Manager (Projects) of NHIDCL, PMU-Dimapur, highlighted the NH 129A Package-1 Peren Town portion. He explained that the Peren to Dimapur section of National Highway 129A starts from the Dzukou River steel bridge at the Manipur border and extends to 7th Mile, Chümoukedima, covering a total length of approximately 81 km. This section has been divided into six packages.
He further stated that the project aims to provide a high-quality highway and will serve as an alternative route connecting Nagaland to Manipur. The project is also expected to stimulate the development of basic infrastructure in the region. Anand Kumar said the project cost for NH 129A Package-1 Peren Town portion is Rs 106.32 crore.
Deputy Commissioner of Peren, Hiazu Meru, also addressed the meeting, stating that the development of good roads will foster further progress in the district. He encouraged the public leaders of Peren Town to hold regular meetings and support the ongoing development process, assisting the workers whenever necessary.
Short speeches were given during the meeting by Machi Reunim, President of Peren Town Youth Organisation; Hairiesong Siang, representative of affected landowners; Liamchu Hega, Chairman of Peren Village Council; Gaigwang Hegeu, Convenor of the Joint Action Committee (JAC); Pelingrangle, President of Peren Town Women Welfare Organisation; and Mireulung Sephe, Chairperson of the Peren Town Council.
The landowners and affected landowners expressed their willingness to cooperate and relinquish their land for the welfare of the public. They assured their full support for the development process in Peren Town.
