1st state-level philatelic exhibition culminates

The first state level online philatelic exhibition, NagaPex-2022 which got underway from February 3 on the theme “India’s Rich Cultural Heritage” culminated here, Saturday.

The virtual exhibition was organised by Nagaland Postal Division under 75 years of Azadi ka Mahotsav and is displayed on www.nagapex2022.com.
To commemorate the closing ceremony, a special cover was released with a design depicting the feather of hornbill which signifies “prestige and honour”.

Addressing the closing ceremony as guest of honour, deputy commissioner (DC) Kohima, Gregory Thejawelie said that due to the pandemic, the exhibition was conducted virtually.

He lauded the postal department for their initiative and emphasised on the participation which was open to all the North Eastern states.

Recalling his youth, DC shared that this hobby created a interest in him and helped him explore history, geography and art.

With the advancement of technology, many rapid developments had taken place and in the same way, the postal services and its function had also changed, he said.

The DC also stated the department had been carrying out several activities and that the postal network had become stronger.

Also speaking at the programme, principal district and session judge Dimapur, Inalo Zhimomi said that philately was the “king of hobbies”.

Encouraging the participants and gathering, he said that stamps of different categories and countries were made easily available online as compared to the past.

He suggested the postal department to initiate philately clubs in schools in all the districts, to conduct letter writing day competition or state level competition in order to develop interest among the young and old.

Meanwhile, in his speech, post master general NE region-II, Som Kamei said the online exhibition was a new area for the department which enabled them to reach wider audience through social media platforms and local television channels.

He assured that more such activities would be carried out involving children in days to come.

Chief post master general, NE circle, Amitabh Kharkwal also acknowledged the state for its rich culture and dynamic history which he said, brought many stamp collectors from the state.

He said that with the present pandemic situation, there was a huge scope for philately.

At the programme, special song was presented by Sarako cultural troupe, short video of hornbill festival was displayed and a webinar exhibiting the postal stationery was presented virtually by senior philatelist & jury member, Virender Sharma.

Winners of the postcard miniature art competition (junior group) on the topic “unsung heroes of India” were Ayushi Bhowal (first), Onosito Weo (second) and Limatula Imchen (third).

Meanwhile, under the seniors’ category on the topic “India’s rich culture heritage”, Rishita Deka was declared first runner-up, while Nandini Kumari and Elizabeth Snock were declared second and third runner-up respectively.
