18th Lok Sabha: 3rd phase training of polling personnel, meeting across Nagaland held

Chümoukedima, April 16 (MExN): In view for the forthcoming General Elections to Lok Sabha 2024, the 3rd phase training of polling personnel was held on April 15, at Government Higher Secondary School, Chümoukedima. ADC & AEO, Chümoukedima, Dr Kuzonyi Wideo along with ADC & AEO, Medziphema and Niuland visited the training programme, stated a DIPR report. 

During the visit, ADC & AEO, Chümoukedima, instructed the polling personnel on the procedures to be followed at the booths during the polling day. They were also instructed on how to end the polling process and how to securely handle the machines while returning them. The polling personnel were also given out ID cards and Appointment Orders at the end of the training session.

Dimapur: The third and final phase of training for the upcoming 18th Lok Sabha elections for the District of Dimapur has concluded at Dimapur Government College on April 15. Group familiarization and election duty certificates were issued to various presiding officers and polling officers at Dimapur I, Dimapur II, and Dimapur-III during the training. A significant number of participants attended the final phase of training, where they were equipped with essential knowledge on electoral procedures, handling electronic voting machines (EVMs) and voter identification.

Mokokchung District Executive Force (DEF) in collaboration District Administration organised a Flag March to declare and ensure a polling day free of malpractices on April 15. The flag march was a combined force of 594/A CISF, G/111 BSF, E/11 NAP (IR) and B/D/E Coys of 2 NAP. Superintendent of Police Mokokchung along with officers and personnel of Police Station-I, Police Station-II and Women Police Station along with district administration participated in the flag March. The flag was organised to instill confidence among the voters for conduct of a free and fair poll. It was an initiative to ensure free and fair poll, free of malpractices.

Mon: In view of the forthcoming General Election to the 18th Lok Sabha Election 2024, DC & DEO Mon, Ajit Kumar Verma has nominated Francis N Konyak, Sr Associate, SBI, Main Branch Mon as Micro Observer in respect of nine Assembly segments of Mon District for the Conducting 3rd randomization of Polling Personnel, Opening of a strong room and Closing of strong room after conduct of Poll.

Tuensang: Expenditure Observers for the forthcoming Lok Sabha Election 2024, Satya Brata, IRAS visited Tuensang District on April 13 and had a brief meeting at DC Conference Hall, Tuensang with the Nodal Officers from Election Expenditure Monitoring Cell, Complaint Monitoring Control Cell, Video Surveillance Team, Video Viewing Team and Flying Squads and urged them to be more vigilant and sincere in performing their duties to ensure free and fair Election in the state.

Phek: A meeting pertaining to the preparation and briefing for the upcoming Lok Sabha General Election 2024 of all Sector Magistrates and Sector Commanders of Phek district was held at the DC Office Conference Hall Phek on April 13.

DC and DEO Phek, John Tsulise Sangtam, NCS in his address said the meeting was called to reiterate the duties and responsibilities Sector Magistrates and Sector Commanders have to perform so that polling in the district is conducted peacefully and in a clean manner. He also stated that since they are empowered with magisterial power, it should be utilized effectively and whenever required so that law and order is maintained effectively throughout the whole election process. He also called upon the Sector Commanders and Sector Officers to be in one’s respective polling station at a strategic location to cover the whole area effectively during the voting hours so as to control any undesirable situations at the earliest and to also coordinate with the polling personnel.

Superintendent of Police Phek, Dr Pritpal Kaur, IPS while briefing about the roles, functions, procedures and duties of Sector Magistrates, Sector Commanders, Para Military, and the Police said that the main role for them was to see that the EVM reaches the polling stations and returned back to the counting station intact since they are liable for its safety. She also called upon the security personnel to keep the polling personnel safe and secure, and to look out for any illegal activities taking place in the district during the election period.

Installation of GPS for Sector Magistrates was also done after the meeting.

Pughoboto: With regard to the upcoming 18th Lok Sabha Election 2024, a co-ordination meeting of Sector Magistrates and Sector Commanders under 13 Pughoboto Assembly Segment was convened by the Office of the Additional Deputy Commissioner and District Election Officer, Pughoboto on April 12 at DB Hall, Pughoboto. 

ADC & DEO, Tiameren Chang reviewed the progress of distribution of Voter Information Slip (VIS), provision of water and sanitation in polling stations and the prevailing law & order situation. Neither vulnerability nor criticality was observed as per the reports of the Sector Magistrates And Sector Commanders. Chang, however, said that vigilance should be observed at all times and any compromising matter should promptly be brought to the notice of the District Administration. He assured that additional magistrates have been appointed and that two engineers will further be deployed in far flung polling stations for assistance. 

SDPO, Pughoboto, Hankiumong briefed on the security arrangements for polling day and further advised on the securing of EVMs and efficient movement of security and polling personnel. 

SDO(C) & ARO, R. Daniel Angami stressed on the importance of timely and proper submission of various reports which are to be scrutinized at CEO Kohima, and to ensure adherence to all election protocols.
