A total of 18, 283 vehicles have been registered in Nagaland during the current year from April 1, 2021 to January 31, 2022.

This was stated in the Annual Administration Report 2021-2022 of transport department, tabled in the just concluded state assembly session in Kohima. The report stated that a total of 20, 577 driving licenses have been issued during the period April 1, 2021 upto January 2022.

The report also stated that during the current year from January 2021 to January 31, 2022, a total of 835 defaulters were detected and total amount of Rs 7, 59, 950 is realized as compounding fees.

Accidents on the rise in Nagaland
The report stated that road safety has become a major concern in the state. The rate of accidents in Nagaland is on the rise.

“Most of these can be traced back to human factor. Lack of proper knowledge of driving, rash driving, speed, drunk driving and driving on poor quality roads account as the major cause of accidents in Nagaland,” the report stated. The report stated that 56 people were killed from road accidents in the state during 2021. The report stated the Motor Vehicle Department upholds the concept of road safety and as the “lead agency for road safety” in the state is engaged in all-out efforts to increase and to promote awareness across the state about the various aspects of road use and safety.
