Secretary, Ministry of DONER, Government of India, Naveen Verma, IAS visited Nagaland Gandhi Ashram and its learning Institutes: Mahatma Gandhi Academy of Human Development (MGAHD) and National Institute of E- Learning & Information Technology (NIELIT).
At NIELIT, the Secretary inaugurated a smart classroom which is equipped with better electronic facilities for teaching and learning. After which he had interaction with the students, where Joint Director, Daniel Meren facilitated the session.
During the interaction, Verma advised the students to be sincere in learning and have a clear direction in their career. He visited the new administrative and hostel buildings which is under construction, and he also surveyed the new proposed Ashram site which is a 332 acre-land donated by Chuchuyimlang village.
At Mahatma Gandhi Academy of Human Development which is a joint initiative of TATA Institute of Social Science & National Gandhi Ashram sponsored by HANs Foundation, he interacted with students and faculty members and said that each must have nodal plan for life not only to survive oneself but also to help the society, he also shared programmes and schemes of the government for the development of the Northeast states.
At Chuchuyimlang village, a public reception in honour of Naveen Verma was accorded at Anumai Amphitheatre. Speaking at the programme, he thanked the village for the donation of huge land to the Ashram for its development, he also shared the importance in the initiative taken up by DONER in the Northeast region development.
Short speeches were delivered by Deputy Commissioner Mokokchung, Sachin Jaiswal and Natwar Thakkar, Founder Nagaland Gandhi Ashram, Chuchuyimlang.
Delivering his speech, DC welcomed and thanked Naveen Verma for his visit to the Ashram which shows his great concern for the Ashram and also to the district in general, he also encouraged the people to follow and take up schemes on which DONER can contribute, and get benefit of it.
Natwar Takkar who is the Founder of Nagaland Gandhi Ashram Chuchuyimlang in the year 1955, delivering his short speech, recounts the history and shared fond memories of the Ashram in the yonder years.
The programme started with invocation prayer by Lima, Pastor Chuchuyimlang Baptist Church, welcome address by Sanen Pongen, chairman (CVC). Highlight of the programme included folk song, cultural presentation and special number, the programme compered by Temsusenla, MSW student, MGAHD.
Earlier, Naveen Verma also visited ECHAHABA Tea factory, which manufactures Merangkong brand Tea at Tuli and interacted with tea farmers of the Co-operative Society and members of Merangkong village council. An exhibition-cum-demonstration of Bamboo made woven by women artisan at Tuli. Dr. Aotoshi, chairman of ECHAHABA Tea Growers Co-operative Society, Merangkong facilitated the sessions. The registrar of co-operative societies, officials of Nagaland Bamboo Development Agency also attended the meeting.
