The areas of  holding at least 60 brick kilns in the outskirts of Dimapur pose great environment and health hazards. Brick kilns operating during winter months, from October to March, spark off possible environment and health problems. Over the years, the problem has only aggravated. No stringent laws or proper implementation of environment laws have led to the area and its people being exposed to health hazards as well as damage to the environment.A resident of Zane village explained that there is clear visibility of atmospheric pollution causing extensive damage to crops and fruit trees grown around the area. He explained that after the ‘bulk trench movable kiln’ was replaced with ‘fixed chimneys,’ the yield of mango fruits in the village has been affected badly.
