Rio pitches for ‘one solution, one people’

Correspondent KOHIMA, OCT 24 (NPN) : Nagaland chief minister Neiphiu Rio on Saturday said there has to be one Naga political solution for one people.

Speaking at a campaign rally at Jakhama Panchayat hall for PDA consensus candidate from the NDPP, Medo Yhokha– contesting the 14 Southern Angami-I by-election, Rio disclosed at his recent meetings with Union Home minister Amit Shah, Home Secretary, Intelligence Bureau director, he was informed that Centre was determined to solve the Naga issue, so that the desire of the Nagas for an early settlement is achieved at the earliest.

Rio said he also met with constitutional and legal experts on the matter.

While stating that the Naga issue was not a law and order problem but political issue, Rio said that the Naga issue will be settled politically based on its uniqueness. He also said that the recent consultative meeting meant that “Nagas are one, issue is one, so we need one solution”.

Rio also informed that delimitation exercise will take place soon and justice will be delivered to all electorate for equal representation.

In his speech, Rio said the fact that there were many aspirants for the party ticket indicated that the NDPP-BJP coalition in the state was popular. Rio therefore, appealed to people to vote for the PDA consensus candidate in order to strengthen the hands of the PDA government.

He said there was no doubt that all ticket aspirants were capable men, however, the party through a consensus proposed the name of Medo Yhokha.

Addressing the meeting, Yhokha assured that if elected, he will work for the welfare of the area to progress. He urged the electorate to support him in order to strengthen the hands of chief minister and the PDA government.

NDPP president Chinwang Konyak also appealed to voters to elect Yhokha so as to enable the PDA government to complete the unfulfilled task left behind by then sitting MLA and Speaker late Vikho-o Yhoshü.

Others who spoke on the occasion include NDPP president Chingwang Konyak, minister Neiba Kronu, advisors– Zhaleo Rio adn Neikiesalie (Nicky) Kire.

Later, Rio along with his entourage held another campaign at Phesama.
