Phek, October 11 (MExN): The International Day of Girl Child under the theme ‘My Voice, Our Equal Future’ was celebrated in Phek on Sunday with the release of Beti Bachao Beti Padhao (BBBP) Magazine and a music video.
The programme which was organised by the District Administration and District Level Centre for Women (DLCW) – Mahila Shakti Kendra (BBBP), Phek also celebrated the achievements of Jessica Snock who was declared as ‘Phek District Icon’ for BBBP.
Snock who hails from Reguri village under Meluri sub-division of Phek district, won the ‘Mrs India Earth Sapphire’ and many more coveted titles in both national and international platforms. She is presently appointed as the Deputy Advisor of the US president Advisory Board of Asia.
In commemoration of the day, baby gift hampers consisting of (baby kit, baby blanket and certificate) were given to the new born baby girls at Phek District Hospital.
The hampers were also distributed in all the Primary Health Centres and Community Health Centres under Phek district.
Earlier on October 10, the District Administration and DLCW- Mahila Shakti Kendra (BBBP) Phek also conducted an awareness campaign on Menstrual Health and Hygiene under Beti Bachao Beti Padhao with the women and adolescent girls in six villages.
