Kiphire reports 1st COVID case; 2 more deaths in Dimapur

DIMAPUR, AUG 19 (NPN): Nagaland on Wednesday registered 38 fresh COVID-19 cases– 28 in Dimapur, 7 in Kohima and 1 each in Kiphire and Wokha, taking the tally to 3,588 cases. Out of 3588 cases, as on August 19, 1838 are active, 1706 recoveries, 8 deaths and 6 migrated.


Kiphire district reported its first COVID case since the pandemic hit the state. A returnee from Andhra Pradesh, lodged at a quarantine centre, had first tested positive through TrueNat on August 17 and the RT-PCR report (BSL-3) which was received on August 19 was positive.


Further, out of the 3,558 positive cases, the distribution across various categories of people include 1,561 cases from the Armed Forces, returnees- 1189, frontline workers- 238, traced contacts- 516 and Others- 54.


2 more deaths reported: Two more COVID-19 related deaths were reported from Dimapur on August 19 at the district COVID-19 hospital.


According to official sources, a 78-year old man who had some health issues, died at the COVID-19 hospital Dimapur at around 5 a.m. The deceased, a resident of Signal basti area, had tested positive for COVID through TrueNat and RT-PCR result awaited.


He was earlier admitted to a private hospital and was shifted to the COVID-19 hospital on August 19, where he passed away.


Another male (47 years) a native of Assam, died at around 1 p.m. He had tested positive for COVID through TrueNat and RT-PCR result awaited.

Sources said that 47-year old, residing at Half Nagarjan area, was admitted to COVID hospital for around 2-3 days after complaining of health issues and died on Wednesday.


With this, the number of deaths (all from Dimapur) rose to 14.


India’s COVID-19 tally climbs to 27,67,273
PTI adds: With 64,531 people testing positive in a day, India’s COVID-19 tally increased to 27,67,273 on Wednesday, while the recoveries crossed the 20-lakh mark pushing the recovery rate to 73.64%, Health Ministry said.


The death toll climbed to 52,889 with 1,092 people succumbing to the disease in a span of 24 hours, the data updated at 8 am showed. Case fatality rate has declined to 1.91 per cent.


There are 6,76,514 active cases of coronavirus infection in the country which is 24.45 per cent of the total caseload, while the number of recoveries has surged to 20,37,870.


India’s COVID-19 tally had crossed the 20-lakh mark on August 7.


According to the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), a cumulative total of 3,17,42,782 samples have been tested till August 18 with 8,01,518 samples being tested on Tuesday.


The health ministry stressed that more than 70 per cent of the deaths occurred due to comorbidities.


“Our figures are being reconciled with the Indian Council of Medical Research,” the ministry said, adding that state-wise distribution of figures is subject to further verification and reconciliation.
